  1. On 1954, at the Iffley Road  Track in Oxford, England, medical student Roger Bannister becomes the first person in recorded history to run the mile in under four minutes.
  2. His excellence was achieved by running 30 minutes most days.
  3. Technology impacted his experience because he was able to focus on a primary thing that was running and getting better.
  4. I think that it was an amazing experience because running is very hard yet this man managed to do it under 4 minutes.

Computer Science Innovations
Artificial Synapses
A) Artificial Synapses are brain inspired computer devices that provide the most faithful emulation of connections of neurons on the human brain. The technology could create a computer that functions similarly to a human one.
B) It will impact researches and common folk because the new computer will allow us to have really advanced computers and cost efficient.
C) You will not be able to plug it into a power source since it creates energy of its own through the alike neurons.

D)I think this is a major step towards the advancement of technology and new better innovations will come from it.

Mikaele Oloa
1.    The excellence achieved was that Mikaele Oloa was world’s hottest champion for a record 5th time at the 2016 WorldFire Championship in Hawaii.
2.  This excellence was achieved because he practiced many years on his creativity, power, speed, and risk based on the ancient traditions of Samoan FireKnife dancing.
3.  Technology would have influenced his performance because he wouldn’t have focused entirely on his practice.

4.  I think this is an amazing arête experience because it requires extreme concentration and skill to be able to do such activity without any harm happening.

Computer Science Innovations: ART

A) ART or Antiretroviral Therapy are medications that are used to treat HIV. Although they don't kill the virus, when taken in combination they do help to slow the virus down which in return slows down the development of HIV.
B)ART will impact those people who have been diagnosed with the HIV virus and it will help stop the growth of the virus.
C)It will help scientist possibly be able to learn about new medications to be able to actually cure the virus and open a gateway to help the medication in order to stop the virus entirely.
D)I think that is a wonderful innovation that will prolong the life of many individuals who suffer from HIV.

Nathan Sawaya
Image result for nathan sawaya1.       The excellence achieved was that he builds custom three-dimensional sculptures and large-scale mosaics from popular everyday items and is best known for his work with standard lego toy bricks.
2.       The excellence achieved was in 2004 when he left his job to become a full time lego artist where he practiced his skills. After working for lego for a few months he branched off to his own studio in New York.
3.       Technology impacted this arête experience because that is how his artwork was displayed to the world and that is how other people saw it.

4.       I think this Arete excellence is wonderful experience to learn about because it shows how if you put your mind to something you can do anything.

Reading Books without Reading Them
A) Using technology similar to x-ray vision, scientists can read closed books, identifying letter for up to 9 sheets.
B) It will impact all of us readers and teachers that want to have a different alternative to reading or that are too lazy to read the book the normal.
C) The problems it will solve is that it will help scientists that want to read ancient books that are too fragile to open.  Also, Spies can read mail without opening it.

D) I think that this innovation is extremely interesting and will prove extremely useful in uncovering new aspects of history that we never knew before.

1.       The excellence achieved was that Alex Hattori, a young boy the age of 15, became a yo-yo king. At such a young age he has entered many competitions and won many records.
2.       This excellence was achieved because ever since he was 11, Alex has never put down the yo-yo after his classmates sneaked some into school and they played with them on lunchtime. When he was 12 he earned the title of national junior yo-yo champion. He continues to strive for excellence.
3.       Technology could have impacted his arête experience because if he had been more involved in technology that in the yo-yo he would have never dedicated himself to his hobby.

4.       I think this is a great example of an arête experience because he took something that he enjoyed doing and he practiced and practiced until he got it perfect. Now, because of his yo-yo he is able to pay his college tuition. After seeing Hattori actually perform I am extremely inspired because he is so good at what he does and the entire time he was very calm with the occasional smile at the crowd.

Blown To Bits Chapter 2 opens our eyes to the realization that although we may think that our lives are private we are actually exposed to invasions everywhere we go. For example when we go out and about to our daily tasks such as running errands like paying phone bills we may think we are minding our own business but in reality we are being photographed. In fact in the UK, there's a camera for every dozen people. That isn't even the scariest part. Our banks keep record of all our transactions in order to report to the government we aren't dealing with large amounts of money. Our credit cards keep registry of where we use our credit card and what we use it on. Our phone companies keep records of our phone calls and where we use our phone. Everything we do can be used against us; the clothes we wear and the cars we drive.
Something that also catches my attention is the fact that nowadays the majority of us public are our life on social media. We post about the things we do without even thinking about who is viewing our stuff or how it could impact is negatively. Pretty much, if it is on the internet we are opening a portal for everyone to be able to view what we post. In reality some things can be out of our hands such as our fingerprints. We never stop to think that we leave them everywhere we go and anyone can have access to them.  Of course having cameras around has its positive parts to it too as we can now photograph criminals and have access to them easier. In conclusion, this chapter teaches us that there is access to EVERYTHING we do and that there is nothing in our lives that isn't private and so that is why we must be careful with the things that we do.

Agricultural Drones
A. Agricultural Drones are drones that are adorned with cameras to improve the quality of farmer’s crop life. The drones allow farmers to detect certain problems such as irrigation treatment, soil variation, and distressed plants.
B. The drones will impact farmers and consumers as the drones will make detecting problems easier and inexpensive. Consumer will now have healthier crops to eat.
C. It will solve the problem of contaminated crops. The drone will be able to detect any problems immediately so that farmers could get to the problem sooner.
D. I think that it is a very good innovation as it a step further into our future. It will promote healthy plant life and save farmers a lot of time and money.

Arete
Carl and Margaret Karcher
1.       Carl Karcher and his wife, Margaret opened over 300 restaurants including the most famous one we have come to know today, Carl’s Jr.
2.       They borrowed $311 from their vehicle and made an investment of $15 from her pocket to open a hot dog stand which eventually turned into restaurants. Until they were able to open hundreds of restaurants.
3.       Technology could have helped their business strive even more with advertising and machinery and such.
4.       I think that this is great excellence because what started off as a hot dog stand skyrocket into one of the biggest fast food chains in the nation. The lesson I learn is that I must start from the bottom to achieve what I want.

Computing enables innovation in nearly every field
“PROXIMA B: LASERS MIGHT ONE DAY POWER SHIP TO CLOSEST ALIEN PLANET”
Image result for proxima b1.      The innovation created by Yuri Milner and Stephen Hawking proposes using a laser to push a tiny, wafer-size spaceship to some fraction of the speed of light, and letting it sail off on a ballistic path to a nearby star. The probe would reach 20 percent the speed of light and reach the star
2.      It will impact all the people in NASA and all the astronauts and astrologists because it will be a breakthrough in science. It will also impact us because it would mean we have another planet to inhabit in the future.
3.      It will solve the problem of overpopulation on planet earth.

4.      I think it is a great innovation that will allow us to study more about spacer and bodies in the galaxy.
